Hanan Hashem

Hanan Hashem is a first year doctoral student at The University of Texas at Austin in the Counseling Psychology program. She completed her Master’s in Counseling Psychology at Wayne State University and her Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Michigan, Dearborn. Hanan is also a Research Assistant and Community Educator at The Family and Youth Institute (thefyi.org). She has previously served as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Social Research, The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and on various other studies with researchers on topics related to discrimination, young American Muslims, and intergroup bias/conflict. Her current research focuses on contextual factors that influence American Muslim youth development. Hanan is also a community organizer and has focused her efforts on youth empowerment through the Muslim Students’ Association, youth groups, regional camps and conferences, as well as serving as an educator for varying institutions.
